The new Power Rangers movie has shared the first look at the teenagers with attitude as the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Exclusively revealed at Entertainment Weekly, the costumes are described as translucent armor that crystallizes around the Power Rangers’ bodies.

The costumes clearly drew inspiration from Iron Man. Each color is represented, though they are infused with lots of silver, and silver breastplates that reflect light. The helmets are ridged with sharp contours, similar to the new Rita Repulsa look. The female Power Rangers no longer have skirts, but the tops are decidedly feminine.

“The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis,” director Dean Israelite said. “These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”

“It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume,” production designer Andrew Menzies said. “Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.”

Power Rangers will be in theaters on March 24, 2017, starring Naomi Scott as Kimberly/Pink Ranger, Becky G. as Trini/Yellow Ranger, R.J. Cyler as Billy/Blue Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack/Black Ranger, and Dacre Montgomery as Jason/Red Ranger.
