Ever since her awesome entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans have rallied around Black Widow and begged for Scarlett Johansson's Avenger to get a solo movie. A poll conducted by Fandango and USA Today showed that Black Widow is still the number one Avenger pick to go solo.

Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have expressed their interest in directing such a film. While Clark Gregg, Robert Downey Jr., and even Johansson herself are among those wondering why this movie isn't already a reality.

Does this mean the redheaded assassin is finally getting her own solo film? Marvel hasn't made any official announcements, but in a Q&A with Deadline, Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige commented on the possibility.

After being asked who (out of Falcon, War Machine, Black Widow, and Hawkeye) was destined for the next solo film, Feige brought up Black Widow. “We’ve announced the next nine movies, ten counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow,” Feige said.

“We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise,” Feige added.

Scarlett Johansson debuted as Black Widow in 2010's Iron Man 2, followed by 2012's The Avengers. Later she partnered with Captain America for 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier and returned for 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Captain America: Civil War marks Johansson's fifth appearance as Black Widow, and is in theaters now. It's not yet known where the character will appear next, but one can hope a standalone film isn't too far off.
