Star Trek fans eagerly awaiting another journey into the universe will have to wait a little longer for the new TV series, Star Trek: Discovery. The highly anticipated series was originally scheduled to release in January on CBS. However, according to Deadline, Star Trek: Discovery will now be premiering in May before segueing to its streaming service.

The schedule shift was reportedly prompted by the production team, who requested a later date to allow more time for filming and post production. This new date also coincides with May sweeps for the network.

Production for Star Trek: Discovery is moving ahead on schedule and is currently in the casting phase of preproduction.
