Following the success of his take on Disney’s The Jungle Book, which earned $965.8 million worldwide since it released in April, Jon Favreau will be putting his spin on another Disney animated feature. Favreau has been confirmed by the Walt Disney Company to be the director on a “new reimagining of The Lion King on the fast track to production.”

A statement released by the company confirms that The Lion King is now in development with Favreau, though no release date has been announced. The new version of the animated film will include songs from the original feature, similarly to how Jungle Book and the upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast have worked in musical numbers.

The Lion King first released in 1994 and is one of the most successful animated films ever, having made $968.5 million around the world; it was the highest-grossing release of ’94, and brought in Academy Awards for original song and original score. The Broadway adaptation debuted in 1997 and won six Tony Awards, and is still running today.
