Official numbers have not been released yet, but Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has sold hundreds of thousands of presale tickets. According to Fandango, their website was inundated with ticket requests within seconds of availability of the overnight presale for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Fandango was flooded with ticket purchases leaving many users experiencing time outs and issues. In a statement to the Los Angeles Times, Fandango stated that “Last night, Fandango saw extraordinary demand for tickets to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Within minutes of going on sale, we sold hundreds of thousands of tickets.”

They also stated that virtual waiting rooms were established for the checkout process to continuously serve the record number of customers.

Last year The Force Awakens earned over $50 million in advance ticket sales before the movie was released in theaters. It broke the previous presale records, beating The Hunger Games and The Dark Knight Rises. If Rogue One continues its current progress it could set the record again.

Rogue One is a companion film set outside of the regular episodic series, detailing the Rebel mission to steal the Death Star plans.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, written by Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz, it stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, and Riz Ahmed. It opens in theaters on December 16, 2016.
