Martin Freeman’s Dr. John Watson saw Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock Holmes come back to life in The Empty Hearse, the first episode of Season 3 of Sherlock. BBC One aired the episode on New Year’s Day.

“The 90-minute installment was the series’ most-watched episode ever in the UK,” Deadline reported. The site also reported that provisional figures also make it the the most-watched drama of the whole holiday period in the UK.

The next episode, The Sign Of Three, airs on January 5, 2014 in the UK, while Season 3 starts in the US on PBS on January 19.
