The Riverdale TV show, based on Archie Comics, has cast two of the four main characters. The CW show has added Lili Reinhart to play Betty Cooper and Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones.

Riverdale will be set in the present and will explore the surrealism of the town, the weirdness below the surface of Riverdale.

Betty is the sweet, wholesome girl with longtime crush on her best friend, Archie. Frustrated with being the perfect daughter, sister, and student she seeks the advice of her new friend Veronica – which her mother does not appreciate.

Jughead is a philosophical young man, school heartthrob, and Archie’s former best friend. He is still annoyed by the rift that has developed between him and Archie.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa the chief creative officer of Archie Comics wrote Riverdale and will serve as executive producer. He’s joined by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater.

Reinhart starred in Surviving Jack in 2014. Sprouse is well known for his role on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody from 2005 to 2008 and the spinoff The Suite Life on Deck from ’08 to ’11.
