Late last week 20th Century Fox released the second trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence. After just three days the trailer accumulated nearly 4.5 million views on YouTube.

It’s been 20 years since the first attack and in that time humankind has improved their own technology and defenses by studying the alien tech that was left behind. Apparently the aliens also took that time to regroup and grow – very, very big.

The trailer is filled top to bottom, beginning to end with destruction and fighting. Returning characters appear haggard and long in the tooth while the youngsters are anxious to save the world as their parents did 20 years ago.

Independence Day: Resurgence will be in theaters on June 24, 2016, fittingly just days before July 4. It is helmed by Independence Day director, Roland Emmerich. Returning stars are Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, and Judd Hirsch. New to the series are Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games), William Fichtner (Armageddon), Maika Monroe (It Follows), Joey King (Dark Knight Rises), and Sela Ward (The Day After Tomorrow).
