Although countless X-Men spinoff movies have been announced – New Mutants, Gambit, X-Force, a third Wolverine and a sequel to Deadpool – fans are left wondering what the future holds for the primary franchise. While no follow-up to X-Men: Apocalypse has been announced, a contract for one of the film's newcomers sheds some light.
Entertainment Weekly recently did a profile on Tye Sheridan, the 19-year-old who plays Cyclops in Apocalypse. According to his contract, Sheridan is signed on for two additional X-Men films. That's a big decision for Sheridan who didn't see any of the X-Men films until X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“After I saw it, I just thought, ‘Oh my God. I’ve been missing this the whole time?! I went back and watched all the previous films, and I quickly became obsessed,” Sheridan told EW. The article also revealed that Sheridan sought out the role of Cyclops after hearing that Fox was casting a younger version.
Although no official film is lined up after Apocalypse, rumors suggest that the next film may feature the Dark Phoenix Saga.
X-Men: Apocalypse is directed by Bryan Singer and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Oscar Isaac, Rose Byrne, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, Sheridan, and more.
Look for X-Men: Apocalypse in theaters May 27, 2016.
