Captain America is one of the greatest superheroes in comic books. He has saved the day in hundreds of comics, been a part of courageous teams, and starred in several popular films. The third modern Captain America movie is heading to theaters this week and is already expected to be a huge hit.

Megan Margulies, granddaughter of Captain America’s co-creator Joe Simon, recently wrote an editorial piece about her personal experiences with “Daddy Joe.” The article appears in Woman’s Day, chronicling the time she spent with her creative genius grandfather. She writes about drawing beside her grandfather, watching him at conventions, and the pain of losing him.

“When I was eight years old, I brought him into school for Grandparents Day, and he stole the show sketching cartoon characters for my classmates and showing us how Richie Rich was really Casper the Ghost with hair. As I got older and began dating, he was a great hook, line and sinker,” Margulies writes.

The editorial is insightful and a deeply personal look at a comics industry icon. Read the full piece on the Woman’s Day website.
