Last weekend Baltimore was safe from evil when the Little Heroes were in town. Little Heroes, hosted by Geppi’s Entertainment Museum (GEM), was an afternoon of high energy fun for kids who love all things superheroes. GEM’s staff hosted at least 65 kids, providing several events from physical challenges to artistic opportunities.
The Little Heroes were dressed in their best superhero costumes from Spider-Man to Wonder Woman. Any comic book reader knows that heroes often change, build on, or improve their costumes, and the Little Heroes had the same chance. They created their own masks, capes, belts, and cuffs – all the things superheroes need.
When they weren’t being artistic, the kids were using their energy overloads on games and physical activities. GEM hosted a Superhero Academy Course. Kids began the course as the Flash and bounced through the city, next they walked on a plank of fire, then they did the Spider-Man limbo, that was followed by Hulk smashing through the city, and ended as Batman going through a ring of fire. The kids received a medal at the end of the course.
Other activities included a Superman obstacle course, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza Toss, and Super-Bubble Wrap Gallery.
After burning all of that energy, the Little Heroes had plenty of snacks with raisins, chips, Animal Crackers, applesauce, juice boxes, fresh fruit, and Captain America cups, which were delicious layered desserts of blueberries, marshmallows, and sliced strawberries.
Prizes were given out for several events. During the Kryptonite Ball Treasure Hunt, kids collected the glowing green rocks for the chance to win gift cards for participating local establishments and attractions. The winner of the word scramble scavenger hunt won the Avengers version of the popular board game, Trouble. Other prizes for games and activities included superhero themed action figures, books, and toys. All of the kids were given goodie bags filled with sports bottles, candy, comic books, Visit Baltimore magazine, and ads for the local attractions that contributed prizes.
“It was a great atmosphere, filled with positive energy and very happy kids. They had a great time on all of the activities. But, the Little Heroes weren’t the only ones having fun. Seeing the kids smile had a positive effect on the parents, cosplayers, and GEM staff. It was a great event where children could bond with their parents and have a good time,” GEM Sales Manager Sharonda Quick said.
