During the Star Trek 50th anniversary panel at Comic-Con fans of the beloved science fiction franchise learned some details about the upcoming TV series. Showrunner Bryan Fuller announced that it will be titled Star Trek Discovery. The ship will also be called Discovery, based on the ship mentioned during Star Trek Voyager. Discovery will not tell more adventures set inside the Enterprise.

Comic-Con also revealed the first trailer for the CBS show. It’s definitely a teaser, with scarce details, but we are treated to a cool like of the sleek ship heading into space.

Fuller also stated that it will utilize a serial format rather than being episodic. A larger story will be told over several chapter-like episodes and there will be no standalone stories.

Star Trek Discovery will premiere in January 2017 on CBS’ regular channel then air weekly on CBS All Access. It will begin shooting this fall in Toronto.
