Glenna Goodacre, world renowned sculptor and designer of the Sacagawea dollar, has individually hand signed a limited number of certification labels for Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.

In 1999 Goodacre’s design for the Sacagawea dollar was selected during a national competition. Sacagawea was a Lemhi Shoshone American Indian made famous for helping Meriwether Lewis and William Clark during their exploration of the American West. The coin’s composition shows Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste on her back. Goodacre’s selection made her one of a small number of independent artists whose art has been minted on a US circulation coin.

Goodacre signed a limited number of NGC labels that will accompany 2000-dated Goodacre Presentation Sacagawea Dollars. Only 5,000 special finish Specimen coins were minted to pay Goodacre’s $5,000 prize for the winning design.

In addition to numismatics, she is known and respected for her large scale bronze sculptures. Her work is exhibited and displayed in private and public collections throughout the US and internationally. Goodacre’s best known work is the Vietnam Women’s Memorial at the National Mall in Washington, DC.

“NGC is honored to be able to work with an artist as accomplished as Glenna Goodacre,” adds Steven R. Eichenbaum, CEO of NGC. “These limited edition, hand-signed labels enhance the collectability of the rare and significant Goodacre Presentation Dollars.”

Goodacre joins Elizabeth Jones, the 11th Chief Engraver of the US Mint; John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint; and Edmund C. Moy, the 38th Director of the US Mint, who have all hand-signed certified labels for NGC.
