AMC’s The Walking Dead TV show has already been renewed for season eight, a week ahead of the season seven premiere. Granted, this isn’t much of a surprise considering how popular the show is with comic and TV fans, alike.

The zombie show renewal announcement was made before the retrospective, The Walking Dead: The Journey So Far, on the first six seasons aired on Sunday, October 16, 2016. The post-episode talk show Talking Dead, hosted by Chris Hardwick, was also renewed.

“Eeny, meeny, miny, more,” AMC President Charlie Collier said. “What a joy to partner with Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple and some of the hardest-working people in television to bring The Walking Dead to fans. And, most important, thanks to those fans for breathing life into this remarkable series right along with us.”

Season eight will premiere late in 2017, opening with the 100th episode. Current showrunner Scott Gimple is also set to return.

The seventh season begins on Sunday, October 23 at 9 PM and will be followed by an expanded 90-minute live episode of Talking Dead.
