Quantcast

A brand new adaptation of Disney’s The Lion King was announced in September 2016, to be directed by Jon Favreau. Two of the lead roles have now been cast, confirmed via Favreau’s Twitter account.

James Earl Jones will be voicing the role of Mufasa, a role he performed in the 1994 animated feature, while Donald Glover will be voicing the adult Simba.

The Lion King originally released in June 1994 and was a massive hit at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing release of that year. It took home two Golden Globes (for Best Original Score and Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy) and two Academy Awards (for Best Original Score and Best Original Song). It has inspired multiple direct-to-video sequels as well as an animated spinoff series, plus a Broadway musical that took home a number of Tony Awards and Drama Desk Awards.
