It’s not just superhero movies that get spinoffs and extended universes, ladies and gentlemen! It was recently announced that the Demon Nun from The Conjuring 2 will be given her own spinoff movie.

The Demon Nun was added to the ghostly Conjuring sequel, haunting Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) while working on a case. She was so terrifying, so popular with fans that she’s getting her own movie.

New Line Cinema announced some of the behind the scenes details, and that the movie will be released on Friday, July 13, 2018. The Nun will be directed by Corin Hardy (The Hallow), with script by Gary Dauberman (Annabelle) and James Wan (The Conjuring 2). It’ll be produced by Wan – who has been a writer, producer, or director for many of the connected films – and Peter Safran.

After a decade of shock value torture porn horror movies, the ghosts and demons have made a comeback in the genre with the Insidious, Conjuring, and Sinister franchises. They aren’t losing any steam, either.

The Nun will be the fifth film in the growing franchise, after Annabelle 2 – introduced in The Conjuring – is released on August 11, 2017. David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) is in the post-production phase of Annabelle 2 and he described it as, “the Godfather II of creepy doll movies.”

It was announced that the protagonist in Annabelle 2 will be a nun who is concerned for the orphans in her care when an evil entity starts preying on them. Perhaps this nun will tie into The Nun. Granted, she may not be the lead in the flick. Casting news for The Nun was not announced and Bonnie Aarons, the actress who played the Demon Nun in The Conjuring 2, is not listed among the credits for Annabelle 2.

A third installment in The Conjuring has not been announced yet, but considering how popular the franchise has become, there’s little doubt that we won’t see the Warrens again.
