Kids Comic Con, the annual children and family friendly convention, will celebrate its 11th anniversary this year on Saturday, April 22, 2017. The show will be held from 10 AM to 6 PM at Bronx Community College in New York City.

Organizers have announced the guest line-up for this year’s Kids Comic Con.

Guests include Julie Averbach, the 17-year-old creator, writer, and editor of Adventures From My World, a comic meant to help siblings of individuals with special needs. The comic attempts to reassure those siblings that they are not alone, challenges they face, and empower them to express themselves. Averbach produced the comic with student artists from the Kubert School as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award projects. This year she was one of ten girls in the U.S. to be recognized by Girl Scouts USA as a National Young Woman of Distinction for her work.

Robert Geronimo will bring his project Little Maia to the con. The wordless graphic novel series was inspired by Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are and Winsor McKay’s Little Nemo & the Adventures in Slumberland. Little Maia is a brave problem solver who goes through magical worlds to find her way home. The wordless format was designed to encourage children to be imaginative, develop their own dialogue, and serve as an introduction to comics.

They will be joined by returning guests Alex Simmons (Archie, Scooby Doo), Jim Salicrup (Papercutz), Diana Leto (Cave Girl, My Little Pony), Danny Fingeroth (Spider-Man, Superman), Mark Mariano (Happyloo, Adventure Time), Chris Giarusso (G-Man, Mini-Marvels), Leslie Carrara-Rudolph (puppeteer Sesame Street), Joe Endres (Space Scamps, Colossians), Michael Grassia (Plunger Pup), Emilio Velez Jr. (The Dodgeball Teens), Mike Lopez (educator, kids comics advocate), and Kate Cohn (sketch artist).

The Lair, the Bronx comics and gaming store, will host their roleplaying card game tournaments, featuring Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon, and Magic, the Gathering.

Guests will participate in events with attendees, do sketches, hold drawing workshops, sign autographs, and more.

The theme this year is Rainbow Rangers, celebrating diversity amongst heroes around the world.

KCC is accepting applications for guests and vendors for the April 22 con. Find information on securing a table on the con website.
