Writer, editor, publisher Mike Gold has been added to the guest lineup for Syracuse’s Salt City Comic-Con. He’ll appear at the show on June 24-25, 2017 at the Oncenter’s War Memorial building in downtown Syracuse.
Gold has been involved in the relaunch of The Flash and Green Arrow, co-founded the Chicago Comic-Con, and worked for various comic publishers, including Valiant/Acclaim, Classics Illustrated, and Image Comics. He was group editor and director of editorial development for DC Comics and co-founder of First Comics.
In social activism, he co-founded The National Runaway Switchboard and has worked for many causes that involve drug education, sex education, and youth. In 2011 Gold was awarded the Hero Initiative’s first Humanitarian Award during Baltimore Comic-Con’s Harvey Award Ceremony.
He is currently involved with ComicMix, Get the Point Radio, and other social causes.
“I’m looking forward to coming up to Syracuse and seeing a bunch of old friends and co-workers,” Gold said. “A lot of great comics talent has come out of this area, and I’m excited to see what’s going on with the younger kids on the block.”
In its fourth year, Syracuse’s Salt City Comic-Con is a pop culture focused event for comics, toys, games, cosplay, and collectibles. Presale tickets are currently available at growtix.com.
“Mike Gold is an impressive guy and I always think of him whenever I see The Flash or Arrow on television. Without his reboot efforts, those shows, and today’s superheroes on TV trend, might never have happened,” Ed Catto, pop culture expert and marketing executive, said. “And I always enjoy the music he plays on his Inside the Gold Mind show on Get The Point Radio too.”
