The CW has just released the first official trailer for their new DC Comics-based drama, Black Lightning. Instead of tracing a hero’s upstart, Black Lightning follows Jefferson Pierce after he hung up his suit and secret identity years ago. But with a daughter hellbent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’s pulled back into the fight.
While the show’s premise differs slightly from The CW’s normal superhero mold, it still packs quite the punch. Black Lightning also isn’t part of The CW’s Arrowverse, which consists of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. From family drama, of the super variety, to major takedowns, this trailer leaves audiences wanting more!
Black Lightning stars Hart of Dixie's Cress Williams in the titular role, alongside Nafessa Williams (Whitney), China Anne McClain (Descendants 2), and Christine Adams (Batman Begins). Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil (The Game) are the show's primary writers, in addition to super-producer Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter executive producer.
The series hails from Berlanti Productions and Akil Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, and is expected to premiere Fall 2017.
