Universal has officially announced that the name for their shared cinematic universe of monster movie reboots will be titled Dark Universe. Universal also confirmed some key cast members and revealed which character will be featured next. The new monster movies will begin with The Mummy, out next month on June 9, 2017.

Universal shared that the second Dark Universe flick will be Bride of Frankenstein, set for release on February 14, 2019. It will be directed by Bill Condon, who directed Gods and Monsters, the biopic about Frankenstein director James Whale. He also helmed the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, out this year. A casting call has been made for the titular Bride.

The Dark Universe brand announcement was made with a teaser video that also featured a new theme composed by Danny Elfman, which can be heard in The Mummy and will recur in future movies. The video features several clips from the classic Universal Monster Movies from the first half of the 20th century. Depicting original film stars like Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr., and Elsa Lanchester, the video illustrates the magnitude of those classic monster films and with it, the potential for the new series.

In addition to the Bride of Frankenstein news, Universal also confirmed rumors that Johnny Depp and Javier Bardem have joined Dark Universe as the Invisible Man and Frankenstein’s Monster, respectively. They join The Mummy stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, and Russell Crowe.

Crowe will have a key role in the series as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde starting with The Mummy. In the Dark Universe, Jekyll runs Prodigium, a secret multi-national organization that investigates the supernatural. Prodigium is set to connect all of the films in Dark Universe.
