Fox and Marvel’s upcoming sequel, Deadpool 2, has just added a new member to the growing cast. According to a Deadline exclusive, Japanese actress Shioli Kutsuna will be joining Ryan Reynolds for the next Merc with the Mouth film.
The studio hasn’t released any details on who Kutsuma is playing, except to say that it’s a key role. She will join previously announced newcomers Josh Brolin (Cable), Zazie Beetz (Domino), and Jack Kesy, along with returnees Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), and Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead).
Recent credits for Kutsuna include the indie film Oh Lucy!, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as the crime thriller The Outsider, which follows a U.S. army deserter (Jared Leto) who joins the Yakuza in post-world War II Japan.
Deadpool made waves at the box office bringing in $783 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing R-rated film. David Leitch is at the helm of the sequel, slated to hit theaters June 1, 2018.
