In the wake of Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s departure, Disney and Lucasfilm have reportedly already found their replacement director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, directing the Han Solo Star Wars anthology film is none other than Academy Award winner Ron Howard.

Sources revealed that Howard will meet with the cast to “soothe a rattled set and will pore over a rough edit to see what the project has and still needs.” The film only had three and a half weeks left of shooting, and five weeks of reshoots in the works, reportedly.

“At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began 40 years ago…With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July,” confirmed Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy in a post on StarWars.com.

Following his childhood debut on The Andy Griffith Show, Howard starred in the cult ’70s flick American Graffiti – which was actually directed by a pre-Star Wars George Lucas. He went on to star on TV’s Happy Days, before making his foray into directing, with films like Night Shift and Gung Ho. Additional directing credits for Howard include Apollo 13, the Academy Award-winning A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and Inferno. Interestingly, Howard was also approached by Lucas to direct the Star Wars prequel, The Phantom Menace.

“Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon,” Kennedy previously shared.

“Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew,” former directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller said.

The Han Solo film – based off a script by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan – stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, with Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Michael K. Williams, and Woody Harrelson.

The Star Wars anthology film is scheduled to premiere on May 25, 2018.
