A CBCS-certified 2.5 copy of All Star Comics #8, which features the Justice Society of America and more notably the first appearance of Wonder Woman, sold for $31,924 in Hake’s Americana & Collectibles Auction #221, which closed Thursday, July 13, 2017. The price realized is a record for that issue in that grade and contributed to Hake's topping $1.1 million for the two-day event.

In addition to the first appearance of Wonder Woman, the Golden Age comic from 1941 is noted for featuring the first appearance of Steve Trevor, as well as a story that sees Starman and Dr. Mid-Nite join the Justice Society of America.

Wonder Woman does not appear on the cover of All Star Comics #8 and this copy is in a lower grade due to the removal of its staples, but those factors couldn’t stop it from fetching an incredible price.

“The upper echelon key books of the Golden Age continue to exceed expectations with every auction, no matter what the condition. All-Star Comics #8 with the first appearance of Wonder Woman is one such book and the result in this auction speaks for itself,” Hake’s President Alex Winter said.

Wonder Woman is part of the DC Trinity, along with Superman and Batman, and is the most significant superheroine in the company’s lineup. She is seeing a current surge in popularity due to Gal Gadot’s impressive performance in Wonder Woman, scene-stealing cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and starring role in the upcoming Justice League. We can expect a continued rise in value for this and other key Wonder Woman books.
