During Baltimore Comic-Con – taking place on September 22-24, 2017 – the annual Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards will be presented on the evening of September 23. This award ceremony, alternatively known as the Ringo Awards, is dedicated to celebrating the creativity, skill, and fun of comics. Currently, the Ringo Awards is in the midst of the 2017 nomination process – inclusive of fans and comic book professionals alike.

Due to the growing influx of nominations, the Ringo Awards are extending their original voting deadline to 12 AM on July 24. Professional voting on the final ballot will be available starting on July 26, with a press release set to announce the final ballot at the start of pro voting.

“We saw an immediate burst of voting after we made our debut,” said Marc Nathan, Baltimore Comic-Con promoter. “Since then, we have seen fans promoting their favorites, pros promoting their works, and now publishers have jumped into the fray hyping their titles and creators. It’s been great to see readers and the industry embrace this effort so completely, and we’re really excited to see how the final ballot comes out!”

Awards will be given in over 20 categories during the ceremony on Saturday, September 23. The fan and pro nomination categories are best cartoonist (writer/artist), writer, artist or penciller, inker, letterer, colorist, cover artist, series, single issue or story, original graphic novel, anthology, humor comic, comic strip or panel, webcomic, nonfiction comic work, and presentation in design.

The jury only nomination will be for The Mike Wieringo Spirit Award. The fan only favorite categories are for hero, villain, new series, and new talent. The Hero Initiative Award (selected by Hero) will be The Hero Initiative Lifetime Achievement Award and The Dick Giordano Humanitarian Award.
