Thursday morning Maggie Thompson (comics journalist, historian, and collector) moderated a panel which discussed the problems of eventual distribution of accumulated collectibles. Michael Solof (Geppi’s Entertain Museum) appeared in the panel with Lon Allen (Heritage Auctions), and Karen Green (Columbia University), who suggested the wheres, whens, whys, and hows of dealing with all your “stuff.”

Solof, not only spoke about the challenges of dealing with the thousands of delicate and rare GEM artifacts but also about the trials and tribulations of storing and caring for his own personal collection of comic related original art, sculptures, and thousands of comics. “It was comforting to hear that I wasn't unique and that everyone on the panel was dealing with the same sort of issues whether they were working for auction houses, universities, or just trying to help out friends, family, or colleagues.”

Although many possible solutions to abundant collecting habits were discussed…it was universally agreed upon that all collections are best kept in cool, dry, and dark places along with as detailed a list as possible of what is included in the collection. “That way, if anything unexpected should happen, it just makes it so much easier for others who might not know a $1 million Action Comics #1 from a $2 Pokémon comic, to know what they’re dealing with,” Solof said.
