At the tail end of a Comic-Con panel for Legion, Noah Hawley thrilled attendees when he teased his latest project. “I’ll just say two words. The first one is Doctor and the next one is Doom,” shared the Legion and Fargo showrunner. That’s right, a standalone Doctor Doom film is in development at 20th Century Fox. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hawley is developing the film with an eye to direct.

Doctor Victor Von Doom is best known as the archenemy of the Fantastic Four. Fox owns the rights to both Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four characters as well as the X-Men. The company released the first Fantastic Four movie in 2005, starring Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis. This spawned the 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and the 2015 Fantastic Four reboot. Julian McMahon portrayed Doctor Doom in the 2005 and 2007 films, while Toby Kebbell took on the role in the reboot.

In addition to the Fantastic Four films, Fox has found recent critical acclaim and box office success with Deadpool and Logan. Meanwhile, Hawley’s Legion will return to FX for a second season next year.
