During New York Comic Con 2017, Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb hosted an Agents of SHIELD panel where he revealed details on the ABC drama’s fifth season. Most notably, that the show would return on December 1, 2017, with a two-hour premiere. Loeb also confirmed that this season would take the agents to new heights, namely space.

“Last season, Agent Coulson and the team saved the world with the help of Ghost Rider. In a rare moment of celebration, the team’s night off was interrupted by a mysterious man and an elite squad. The next thing we saw was Coulson onboard a ship…in deep space! Together, they will have to discover where they are and how to get home while the clock ticks out on humanity. These secrets and mysteries are only the beginning for what is sure to be the most surprising and exhilarating SHIELD adventure yet,” reads the official synopsis for the season.

Attendees at the panel were graced with previewing the first 20 minutes of the season five opener, which shows the perspective of the man-in-black as he abducts the agents. Well, most of them. Apparently, everyone was kidnapped except for Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) who didn’t make the cut. After being transported to the space station, the agents find themselves face to face with an alien monster. While Daisy (Chloe Bennet), Coulson (Clark Gregg), Mack (Henry Simmons), Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), and Yo-Yo (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) deal with the alien; an injured May (Ming-Na Wen) is captured by another mysterious man.

Along with a peak into the two-hour premiere, Loeb also reminded fans that Nick Blood will reprise his role as former SHIELD Agent Lance Hunter. Viewers can also expect to see more of Yo-Yo as Natalia Cordova-Buckley was just made a series regular. Loeb additionally shared that Gregg directed the sixth episode of the new season.

“It was really an amazing experience. There’s some amazing fight [scenes] in it,” shared Gregg.

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD returns December 1 at 8 PM ET on ABC.
