As the 2017 Doctor Who Christmas Special rapidly approaches, BBC took to Twitter to share the first official photo of Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. Clearly drawing inspiration from previous incarnations of the Doctor, Whittaker’s is seen in cropped teal culottes with yellow suspenders, along with a striped jumper and long trench coat. Completing her look is a pair of brown boots, blue and turquoise striped socks and some unusual earrings.
Whittaker, known for her roles on Broadchurch and Trust Me, will take over for Peter Capaldi as the first female version of the Doctor. She will make her debut during the Christmas Special after the Doctor regenerates. The next season will then begin Fall 2018 via BBC America, and will be a 10-week run of 50-minute episodes. Whittaker will also be joined by Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill and Sharon D. Clarke.
“It’s more than an honour to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope,” shared Whittaker, when her casting was announced earlier this year.
