Hiromi Tsuru, best-known for her prolific voice acting career across anime and video games, passed away on November 16, 2017. She was 57 years old.

Tsuru was born on March 29, 1960 in Hokkaido, Japan. She broke into the anime voice acting business at just 18 years old in 1978, when she voiced the title character in The Story of Perrine. She is best-known for her role of Bulma in the Dragon Ball franchise, a character she has portrayed for 31 years, including in the ongoing Dragon Ball Super series. She also provided the voices for Baby Trunks and Bra in various Dragon Ball shows.

Other notable anime roles for Tsuru over the years have included Dokin-Chan in Anpanman, Asuna Kujou in Maison Ikkoku, Ukyo Kuonji in Ranma 1/2, and Meryl Stryfe in Trigun; her video game work included voicing Reina in the Yakuza series and Dr. Naomi Hunter in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, among many others.

“I’m so shocked to hear about her sudden passing. I pray with all my heart that she finds happiness in the next world,” Anpanman producer Atsuhi Kirimoto told Mantan Web.
