Valkyrie has been named as the last cast member to the upcoming Exiles title. The version that’ll be used is openly based on the likeness of Tessa Thompson as she appeared as Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok.

“Though she’s not technically from the Marvel Cinematic Universe reality, she’s basically the literalization of the larger-than-her-physical-frame swagger that Tessa Thompson displayed in Thor: Ragnarok, turned up to 11,” series writer Saladin Ahmed said in a press release.

Valkyrie will join other characters from different dimensions in Marvel’s multiverse. She’ll fight alongside Blink, Khan (an older version of Kamala Khan), Wolvie (a chibi-style version of Wolverine), and Iron Lad.

Ahmed said that the Exiles creative team were fans of Thompson’s version of the character in Ragnarok.

“Valkyrie’s a character who’s always appealed to me. Her iconic warrior-woman look ‒ spear! sword! flying horse! ‒ but also the juxtaposition of a kickass ancient fantasy hero operating in contemporary New York City,” Ahmed said.

Exiles #1 will be out in stores on April 11, 2018. The second issue will follow two weeks later.
