Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn previously confirmed his return for the third film installment. Now, as the team prepares to join the Avengers in Infinity War, Gunn announced Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will arrive in 2020. 

Gunn hosted a brief Q&A session on Twitter, during which he revealed the film will arrive sometime in 2020. As Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm any films beyond Phase Three, Gunn was only able to share the release year. 

While details regarding Vol. 3 are few, Gunn revealed prior that this will be the last installment with this version of the team. 

“When we’re talking about Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and that story, that’s a story that will lead to other stories. It’s innate to the DNA that that’s the end of a trilogy but it’s the beginning of a whole other element of the Marvel Cosmic universe,” shared Gunn, teasing the possibility of a spinoff stories. 

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is coming in 2020. Fans can catch the Guardians is Avengers: Infinity War in theaters on May 8, as well as in the untitled Avengers 4 arriving in 2019.
