Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that the upcoming Shazam film will be releasing on April 5, 2019. The movie will star Asher Angel as the young Billy Batson, with Zachary Levi taking on the role of the titular hero.

Dwayne Johnson, who was previously cast back in 2014 as classic Shazam villain Black Adam, will not actually be appearing in the Shazam film and instead is slated to star in a Black Adam solo movie. There is no date currently set for that project.

Shazam is being directed by David F. Sandberg and written by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. The film joins the DC Extended Universe of films, which has included Wonder Woman and Justice League; other projects currently in the works for the DCEU include Aquaman, Cyborg, and a Wonder Woman sequel.
