Although its been nearly 15 years since Joss Whedon’s world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired on television, the vamp-centric universe has lived on in comics. Now, as revealed via CBR, Dark Horse Comics’ is releasing an all-new series – Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 12: The Reckoning.
Leading this new foray into the Buffyverse is Whedon himself, alongside fellow Buffy alums, writer Christos Gage and artist Georges Jeanty. The last time Whedon wrote an arc for the series was during Dark Horse Comics’ 2011 story arc Buffy: Season Nine, while Gage previously worked on Buffy: Season 11 and Jeanty on Buffy: Season 8.
The synopsis teases that the new series will pick up where the Buffy: Season 11 finale left off. Following a rather easygoing year, the Scooby Gang is pulled back into danger when familiar faces crash Xander and Dawn’s housewarming. With stakes in hand, Buffy and her friends are forced to tackle a legion of demons, Wolfram Hart and a vampire from the future called Harth. Not to mention, time warps, alternate futures, the arrival of Melaka Fray, and the return of characters like Faith, Angel and the former god-king Illyria.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 12: The Reckoning #1 features three variant covers from artists Stephanie Hans, Georges Jeanty, with Karl Story, Dan Jackson, and Karl Moline.
The first issue of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 12: The Reckoning will go on sale on June 20, 2018 and will be available to preorder from comic book shops in March.
