The CW’s hit television show, The Flash, is no stranger to having multiple speedsters running around. However, for the first time on screen, Iris West-Allen will take up the mantle of the Flash. Harry Jierjian directed the episode written by Eric Wallace, which will see Barry Allen transferring his metahuman speed to his wife.

“‘Run, Iris, Run’ Iris Suits Up – Team Flash confronts a new bus meta, Matthew, a/k/a Melting Pot (guest star Leonardo Nam), with the ability to swap people’s DNA. During a battle with Team Flash, Harold transfers Barry’s (Grant Gustin) super speed to Iris (Candice Patton). Now, with a new threat unleashed on Central City, Barry must act as the team leader while Iris takes on the mantle of superhero speedster in order to defeat their new foe,” reads the episode synopsis.

The Flash comic series, written by Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul, saw Iris suit up in a special Speed Force suit that allowed her to travel at lightning speeds. “I know about the Speed Force suit. I want it, I want it, I want it! Geoff Johns, I want it. I sent him photos, like, ‘You know about this happening.’ So he’s aware that I’m aware. I’m hoping eventually we’ll see that,” Patton once said.

Unlike the iconic scarlet coloring of the Flashs costume, the outfit Patton dons on the show more closely resembles Earth Two speedster Jesse Quick. It also remains to be seen if Iris will use the Flash name while in costume. This role reversal could also cause some martial tension between Barry and Iris, piled on top of his return from the Speed Force and brief incarceration.

Iris debuts as a speedster on March 13, 2018.
