Sam Raimi will be producing a new reboot of the horror film The Grudge, originally released in the U.S. in 2004 and based on the Japanese Ju-on films. Raimi will be joined by Rob Tapert on producing the new movie for Ghost House, with Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman executive producing.
The film is expected to begin shooting in May 2018. Nicolas Pesce will be writing the reboot as well as directing the project. As far as the cast is concerned, Demian Bichir and Andrea Riseborough have signed on to act.
“We are so excited about this new adaptation,” Raimi told Variety. “We went back to the original source material to deliver a relentless supernatural thrill ride that explores the horrors of American suburbia.”
It is currently unknown if the rebooted Grudge film will retain the focus on the Saeki family curse that the prior films included.
