Reader beware, you’re in for a…writing lesson?

R.L. Stine, the master storyteller who made a career out of scaring kids and teenagers with his Goosebumps and Fear Street book series is ready to impart some wisdom. Through MasterClass, the popular author of kid horror is teaching his first online class, Teaching Writing For Young Audiences.

The class will be taught through 28 lessons on topics like generating ideas, developing plot, writing dialogue, creating monsters, writing twists and cliffhangers, avoiding writer’s block, and ways to hook readers from the very beginning.

In a video promoting the class, Stine gives a taste of what he’ll discuss and his hopes to teach that “writing doesn’t have to be scary.” Based on the video, it’s likely that he’ll share personal details that directed his path as a writer.

In addition to Stine’s videos, there’s a downloadable workbook, original outlines from Goosebumps books, a character “cheat sheet” from Fear Street, and plot ideas to get students started.

MasterClass is an online class in which people can learn from the best in respective fields of writing, music, athletics, culinary arts, film, photography, and others. Classes are instructed via video with MasterClass producing them to provide exactly what instructors want to teach. Instructors have included Annie Leibovitz, Gordon Ramsay, Stephen Curry, Spike Lee, Judy Blume, James Patterson, Christina Aguilera, and Serena Williams, among others.
