Verne Troyer, the actor how portrayed Mini-Me in the Austin Powers film series, died on Saturday, April 21, 2018. The news was shared via his social media accounts, though no cause of death was given. He was 49 years old.

Standing 2 feet 8 inches, Troyer is most well known for playing Mini-Me in the second and third Austin Powers movies. The part was initially going to be a small role, but director Jay Roach and star/co-creator Mike Myers were impressed by his performance and expanded the role. He collaborated with Myers again in 2008 for The Love Guru.

Troyer was born on January 1, 1969 in Sturgis, Michigan. His film career began when the former president of Little People of America got in touch with him about playing a stunt double in Baby’s Day Out. Other stunt work included in Masked Rider, Dunston Checks In, Volcano, and My Giant.

He began acting in 1996’s Pinocchio’s Revenge, then he was in Jingle All the Way, Men in Black, Wishmaster, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Mighty Joe Young through the late ’90s. In the 2000s, he was in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. He appeared in the video shorts The Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald, and his final project was Hipsters, Gangsters, Aliens and Geeks.
