The 35th anniversary of Howard Chaykin’s groundbreaking series American Flagg is featured on the cover of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #48, on the Guide’s third Hall of Fame cover.

Scheduled to go on sale on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 in comic shops, this special version of the Guide is featured on page 321 of the May 2018 PREVIEWS from Diamond Comic Distributors. The annual’s Hall of Fame cover, offered in both hardcover and softcover, is produced as a limited edition in addition to the standard covers of the Guide, which were solicited in the April 2018 PREVIEWS. The hardcover version is $35 and the softcover is $29.95.

Chaykin, joined by American Flagg alum Ken Bruzenak on the logo and Wil Quintana on colors, follows the legendary Russ Heath’s Sgt. Rock cover for The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #42 and Walter Simonson’s Star Slammers cover for #43 in our Hall of Fame series.

“As a guy who collected Golden Age comics in my ages ago boyhood, I’d’ve loved to have access to the expertise in The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide way back then. I’m delighted to join the list of colleagues, and to celebrate the 35th anniversary of American Flagg! – the book that made my bones,” said Howard Chaykin.

“Even though it’s really hard to believe that it’s been 35 years since American Flagg! first shook things up in the world of comic books, we’re beyond excited to have Howard Chaykin’s creation featured on the Hall of Fame edition of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #48. Very few creators who were of age at the time weren’t influenced by the media-savvy storytelling style on display in its pages, and the incredible work Howard Chaykin has more than stood the test of time,” said J.C. Vaughn, Vice-President of Publishing for Gemstone Publishing.

Chaykin joins a long list of comic book greats who have covered the Guide. From Joe Kubert, Will Eisner, and Carl Barks to Mark Chiarello, Walter Simonson, and Amanda Conner, covering The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide has been the exclusive purview of the field’s top artists. Wally Wood, Al Williamson, Murphy Anderson, Carmine Infantino, Joe Simon, C.C. Beck, John K. Snyder III, Joe Jusko, and Mike Deodato, Jr. are among the other luminaries whose work has been featured.

The Bible of serious comic book collectors, dealers, and historians since it was first published in 1970, The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide is released each July by Gemstone Publishing.
