Four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening has joined Marvel Studios’ first female-led feature Captain Marvel in a secret role, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Currently Bening’s role in the superhero film is being kept a secret, but she is described as being a “scientist.”
Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Air Force pilot Carol Danvers who finds her life forever changed after her DNA is fused with alien DNA, giving her superhuman powers. The solo film also stars Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, and Gemma Chan, along with Guardians of the Galaxy’s Djimon Hounsou and Lee Pace reprising their characters.
Currently in production and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind), Captain Marvel is set to debut in theaters March 8, 2019.
Bening most recently starred in the period drama Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool and an adaptation of the Anton Chekhov play The Seagull on Friday, May 11, 2018.
