Square Enix returned to the E3 stage for the first time in several years for the 2018 presentation, showing off a number of popular titles for gamers to look forward to in the coming years.

The show opened with Shadow of the Tomb Raider, with a gameplay demonstration that highlighted the stealth tactics that Lara Croft will have to use in order to take down her enemies. The developers referred to the style of action as “becoming one with the jungle” as Lara would otherwise be outmanned and outgunned. Shadow of the Tomb Raider arrives September 14, 2018.

Final Fantasy XIV received a highlight as well, as the online MMORPG continues to see new expansions and additions to the content. A new patch, Under the Moonlight, was previewed. There will also be a crossover between FFXIV and Capcom’s popular Monster Hunter World in “summer 2018.”

Dragon Quest also got a big spotlight, with a brand-new lengthy cinematic trailer for the upcoming Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The trailer highlighted much of the game’s story, characters, and action that can be expected from this new entry in the long-running franchise. The game will release for the PS4 on September 4, 2018, and will be available in both a standard and a special edition, the “Edition of Lost Time,” which will be available exclusively from the Square Enix Store.

A fancy and quite dramatic cinematic trailer also debuted for Babylon’s Fall, a new game being developed for Square Enix by Platinum Games, which is set for a 2019 release on both Steam and PlayStation 4. Not much is known about what the game will entail, though many heavily-armored characters were shown off during the trailer.

Octopath Traveler, a previously-announced title being developed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, also received a quick spotlight during the presentation that highlighted the world and its characters. The game releases on July 13, 2018. A downloadable demo has been available via the Nintendo eShop that allows for players to try the game before it releases.

Just Cause 4, which was announced properly during the Microsoft presentation, saw a more extensive look during Square Enix’s presentation. The discussion of the game highlighted the beautiful but dangerous world of the game as well as its over-the-top action and destruction. The game will feature extreme weather, such as sandstorms, tornadoes, and blizzards, that the player will have to contend with during the course of the game. Just Cause 4 arrives on December 4, 2018.

Square Enix then showed off a live-action trailer for The Quiet Man, a new action-adventure game featuring a deaf protagonist. Not much of the game was shown, and the trailer ended with the information that there would be “more to come in August.”

Kingdom Hearts 3 received a spotlight, though it was ultimately the same trailer that was shown at the Microsoft presentation, which focused on the Frozen world and characters. It also highlighted a lot of the action in battle that players have come to expect from this popular series. The game’s due out on January 29, 2019, for the Xbox One and Playstation 4.
