After 14 years, the super sequel to Disney-Pixar’s 2004 animated feature The Incredibles dominated the box office during its opening weekend. The heroic family film earned $180 million at the domestic box office, breaking several records. Topping Finding Dory by $45 million, the film now holds the record for biggest opening of all time for an animated film.
It’s also the the eighth-largest opening, and second-largest June opening of all time, behind 2015’s Jurassic World. Following Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther, Incredibles 2 is the third largest opening of the year with $231.5 million brought in around the world, so far.
Written and directed by Brad Bird, Incredibles 2 stars Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson, Sophia Bush, Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener, Jonathan Banks, Sarah Vowell, Isabella Rossellini, and Brad Bird. The film is currently in theaters.
