Ant-Man and the Wasp enjoyed a strong opening weekend at the movies, bringing in $76 million domestically across 4,206 North American locations. That opening is ahead of the prior film for these two miniscule heroes, 2015’s Ant-Man, which debuted with $57 million.
Overseas, the film took in $85 million, for a total worldwide opening weekend of $161 million. This is the 20th Marvel Cinematic Universe film, and – alongside the other 19 films in the franchise – opened at No. 1 at the box office. All MCU films combined have brought in $17 billion globally.
Ant-Man and the Wasp finished ahead of Incredibles 2 and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which took in $29 million and $28.6 million, respectively. The First Purge, which also opened this weekend, brought in $17 million.
