As part of The CW’s now-traditional multi-show crossover, Kate Kane’s Batwoman is set to make her Arrowverse debut for the event in December 2018. But now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Batwoman may become a permanent fixture on The CW.
Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti and Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) are reportedly developing a potential Batwoman television series for 2019. Berlanti and his Warner Bros. TV-based Berlanti Productions topper Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns will executive produce the drama, alongside Dries who is penning the show’s script.
Apparently the new Batwoman series, centered around openly gay Kate Kane, will see the character soar into Gotham as an opinionated and highly trained fighter with a passion for justice. But despite her penchant for taking on the city’s criminal rogues, Kane is far from a hero. Before she can serve as Gotham’s symbol of hope, Kane must first overcome her own demons.
If the Batwoman series is commissioned, it would join the current DC-CW lineup that includes Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning. Launching in August, the DC Universe subscription digital platform will also feature scripted originals such as Titans and Doom Patrol.
Casting is currently underway for an actress to play Kane in this year’s four-way crossover, with the plan for that same actress to headline the 2019 series should The CW order a pilot.
