Turn off the Bat-signal, the search is over! The CW has officially cast model-actress Ruby Rose as Kate Kane/Batwoman for the upcoming crossover event, as well as the potential standalone series currently in development.
Rose will make her debut as Batwoman during the annual DC-CW crossover event this December 2018, which will bring together the cast of Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl. After which, should the show get picked up, Rose will headline the series focused on the LGBT superheroine.
“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence,” reads the official logline. “But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) has been tapped to pen the new series, as well as executive produce alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns.
Rose, best known for her role on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, she was in Pitch Perfect 3, and appeared in action films like XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, John Wick: Chapter 2, and the upcoming shark movie The Meg.
