Steve Orlando will be debuting a convention-exclusive cover of his new creator-owned series CRUDE at Flame Con on August 18-19, 2018. Orlando has previously worked on DC Comics titles such as Batman and Robin Eternal, Supergirl, and Justice League of America, and has also been nominated for the GLAAD Media Award.

“Flame Con is a vital event for the geek and queer communities, one of my favorite shows of the year and a powerful, joyous event,” Orlando said. “Doing a Flame Con exclusive variant of my only creator-owned release of 2018, is an exciting chance to donate to Flame Con with each issue sold and support a much-needed celebration of queer geek culture.”

In conjunction with Skybound Entertainment, a limited series of the variant cover will be available for $30, with partial proceeds being donated to Geeks OUT, the LGBTQ non-profit and founder of Flame Con. Orlando will also be debuting his latest take on comics with an original scriptbook for a never before published story, The Liberator. Only 100 copies will be available for purchase this weekend.

Flame Con is a large queer-focused comic book convention and will be entering its fourth year in 2018. This year, the convention will host more than 200 LGBTQ creators, artists, and writers in a two-day celebration of queer geek fandom in Times Square. Guests this year include Cecil Baldwin (Welcome to Night Vale), Phil Jiminez (Astonishing X-Men), Mariko Tamaki (This One Summer), Noelle Stevenson (Lumberjanes), and many more.

“It’s always exciting when guests who have been with us since year one love and want to return to Flame Con,” said Steve Gianaca, Flame Con Chair and Vice President of Geeks OUT. “We’re extremely proud of the talented group of people we’ve brought on as special guests this year as Flame Con continues to grow and become as inclusive as ever.”
