Every teaser for Sony’s standalone Venom film has been more terrifying than the last. Now, the symbiote’s tongue takes center stage in a new teaser image from titular star Tom Hardy. 

While dialing back on the saliva and teeth that were so prominent in the earlier Japanese poster, this image still captures the unsettling feel fans have come to expect from the film’s promotional campaign. 

Venom is the first film in Sony’s planned cinematic universe which intends to feature Spider-Man characters like Black Cat, Silver Sable, Morbius the Living Vampire, and Kraven the Hunter.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, and Riz Ahmed as Carlton Drake/Rio. The film slithers into theaters on October 5, 2018.
