Disney is developing a number of limited series based on various Marvel Cinematic Universe characters for their upcoming Disney Play streaming service, according to a report by Variety. So far there will be shows focused on Loki and on Scarlet Witch, with more in development.
These series are expected to contain between six and eight episodes each, and will be focused on MCU characters that have not seen their own solo film entry. The actors who have portrayed these characters in the films – in this case, Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen – are expected to play them in these shows as well. Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, will be helping develop these series for Disney Play.
While various other shows have been made within the same universe as the MCU films, sources told Variety that those series (such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Netflix series) will continue to be developed under the Marvel TV banner, while these new shows will be produced by Marvel Studios proper.
