After the recent picture of Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker left fans wondering where his iconic clown makeup was, director Todd Phillips shared a new image of Phoenix with his face on.

A far cry from Jared Leto’s punk look in Suicide Squad and Heath Ledger’s distressed take in The Dark Knight, this version of the Clown Prince of Crime offers a much more traditional look. The image sees Phoenix’s hair dyed green, his face a pure white with blue diamonds over the eyes and expressive eyebrows highlighting the forehead. But easily the most Joker-esque feature is the red overdrawn smile.

Along with the camera test, Phillips shared a video of Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck gradually morphing into The Joker set to The Guess Who’s somber track “Laughing.”

Currently in production, the standalone movie chronicling the villain’s origin story is set to be released in October 2019.
