DC Universe has slowly been dropping casting announcements for their upcoming live-action series, Swamp Thing. Now, the new streaming platform has finally confirmed who will be playing the titular role! Power’s Andy Bean has been tapped to play scientist Alec Holland, while Friday the 13th’s Derek Mears will portray the creature that Holland eventually turns into.

Not only has Mears filled the very large shoes of Jason Voorhees, but he has also played monsters in Predators, Sleepy Hollow, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., True Blood, Grimm, and Teen Wolf, making him an exciting choice to play the chilling creature lurking in the murky marsh.

“Passionate biologist Alec Holland is caught in the crosshairs of a small town nightmare when he discovers a bizarre local illness may be connected to his work in the swamp. Holland's discovery leads him into conflict with dark forces, from which he emerges as the elemental hero known as Swamp Thing,” reads the official character description.

The official description for Swamp Thing reads: “Emerging from the swamp with a monstrous physique and strange new powers over plant life, the man who was once Alec Holland struggles to hold onto his humanity. When dark forces converge on the town of Marais, Swamp Thing must embrace what he has become in order to defend the town as well as the natural world at large.”

The addition of Bean and Mears come after the casting of Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane, Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu, Virginia Madsen as Maria Sunderland and Will Patton as Avery Sunderland. Swamp Thing is expected to debut sometime in 2019.
