Following his recent resurgence in last summer’s six-issue Plastic Man miniseries, the classic DC hero is stretching all the way onto the big screen. Screenwriter Amanda Idoko, who worked on ABC’s short-lived series The Mayor, has been tapped to pen the script. Former co-founder of New Line, Bob Shaye, will executive produce the comedy adventure film.

Created by Jack Cole, Plastic Man initially debuted in the pages of Quality Comics in 1941. Following Quality’s close in 1956, DC purchased many of the publisher’s characters, Plastic Man among them.

The small time crook turned big time hero was originally introduced as gang member Patrick “Eel” O’Brian. During a botched heist, O’Brian is shot and drenched with a chemical liquid. Upon awakening, O’Brian discovers he now possesses extreme elasticity and malleability, allowing him to stretch his body into almost anything. Leaving the world of crime behind, O’Brian becomes a police officer and even served with the Justice League for a time.

The project is still in the early stages and has no filmmaker on board. President of DC-based film production, Walter Hamada, and Chantal Nong are overseeing for the studio.
